Tutorial

OligoReport checks the phylogenetic range of oligonucleotide probes and PCR primers.  Although designed primarily to utilise small subunit ribosomal RNA sequence data, OligoReport can be used with any nucleic acid sequence data.

The following tutorial illustrates how OligoReport can be used to assess the suitability of an oligonucleotide probe using data from the Ribosomal Database Project and other sources.

For this tutorial, we shall assess an oligonucleotide probe that was designed to target a novel uncultured taxon with the Bacteroidetes phylum.

On running the program the we're presented with the following window:

To check an oligonucleotide, the following a four step process is followed:
  1. Construct database.
  2. Specify target taxon for oligonucleotide.
  3. Enter oligonucleotide.
  4. Screen these oligonucleotide against the assembled database.
