Results Window
The analysis complete, this window displays the outcome of
the analysis. During the analysis (initiated by pressing 'Do
Analysis' within the main
window), the supplied primer set or probe will have been checked
against each database sequence. Matches between
oligonucleotide(s) and database-sequence, with increasing number of
base-mismatches allowed will have been noted. The resulting
output of this analysis is presented, as displayed below.
Explaining the display
Tree view and list view panels
Except for the graph panel in the bottom right-hand corner, the layout
of this window is the same as that for the Construct Database
dialog box used earlier. As before, individual sequence
records are represented in the list view panel on the left-hand side,
whilst the groups they fall in are displayed within the tree view panel
to the left. However now, individual records, and their
corresponding groups, are colour coded
according to how successfully they were targeted by the primer set or
probe under consideration. In addition, the list view panel also
lists exactly how many base-mismatches were required for a match to
occur, considering each oligonucleotide separately.
Graph panel
The graph panel in the bottom right-hand corner is the most important
aspect of this window. It displays the effect that an increasing
number of base mismatches has on the ability of the primer set or probe
in question to describe a particular group of sequence records.
The
blue line plots the percentage of records within that group
that
is targeted by the primer set or probe, as the number of
base-mismatches
allowed increases. The red line, in contrast, plots the
percentage
of records outside of that group that match with the primer set
or
probe. Thus, at a glance the user is able to see how effective
the
primer set or probe is in describing that group relative to all other
records
within the database. The plot for a particular group is displayed
by the user clicking on that group with the mouse.
Saving the results
The contents of this window can be saved by selecting the Save menu
item in the File pull down menu.
Results can be saved with an accompanying text note, accessed via the
the 'Tools' menu:
Data displayed within the graph panel can also be copied to the
clipboard
and used in another application (e.g. Microsoft Excel).
Right-mouse-click
on the graph window to display the associated context menu, and select
the
'Copy Data to Clipboard' option.
